A B O U T

WAZALOO (WAZA上田) is an artist working out of her home studio in Milwaukee, WI, USA. She primarily uses pen and ink to illustrate her personal and collaborative pieces. Using elements of traditional Japanese art and European Medieval engraving, she attempts to reconcile her mixed ancestry to find a common philosophy between them. She expresses a certain grief from existing in racial and spiritual turmoil, but with the fighting ethos of punk and pride in her heritage.

Empowering the human spirit is WAZALOO’s true goal and purpose. Her designs have been drawing people together for shows and events since 2006. With a great love of music she specializes in album art and flyering, promoting bands locally, across the country, and abroad. Her work can be found illustrating many zines, and her sequential art has been published in several independent compilations. She is a screen printer/designer at Orchard Street Press, and does vocals for the anarcho-goth band DESTROS.
